Nina Nesbitt and Indie Pop as a genre.

Nina Nesbitt is an acoustic indie pop artist. She released her breakthrough single in 2013 "Stay Out." When she released her debut album 'Peroxide' she was just 19. Nina's age is a vital part of her career. It is the focus point of her songs, reflecting on lessons she's learnt since she first picked up a guitar aged 15, writing songs from the point of view of a typical teenager.

Its a commonly known for every genre of music to have their own, very different stereotypical conventions within a sub genre. Whether this varies from heavy metal artists covered in piercings and dressed head to toe in black to pop females in the charts dressed in next to nothing. Within any genre of music we as an audience make judgements from typical conventions we see, an image built upon a person.

The indie pop genre has a very distinctive look for both men and women. For women, we often find they date back to the 'hippy era' dressing in floral kimonos, John Lennon style sun glasses and having long wavy hair. Although, for the likes of Gabrielle Aplin, she bases her image on a completely different look. By taking on the 'vintage girl' look, dressing in floral dresses, toning down her make up and having natural hair still making her recognisable as an indie pop artist. However, for the men, such as John Mayer and Ed Sheeran they appear to take on a 'scruffy' look, perhaps compatibly to the females 'hippy' look, by dressing down it suggests these artists focus point is purely on their music. Also, another very important factor within this genre is the acoustic guitar, thus being a well known convention for an indie pop artist male or female.
